April 2022 Reads
April was one of my most varied and most enjoyable reading months ever. I read classics that have been on my list forever to titles I had not ever heard of but was so glad to read to fun Spring Break brain candy. Each of these books were great reads all in their own way.
French Braid- The only Anne Tyler I had read prior to this one was her Shakespeare adaptation, Vinegar Girl, which was fine not typical of her style. I am so glad I read this and now I can’t wait to dive deep in to Tyler’s backlist.
Malibu Rising- I would call this the perfect beach read.
Creatures of Passage- I read this with a small group of bookish friends whose choices are constantly pushing me out of my comfort zone. This was a book I had never heard of and that I probably would not have finished were it not for the fact that I really wanted to talk about with this group of friends. As always, I got so much out of this read thanks to the discussion we had about the book.
The Unpassing- Everything I wrote about Creatures of Passage above applies to this book too. :)
Beloved- This book is now on my favorite reads of all time list. I read this book thanks to Caroline’s encouragement, the joy of buddy reading with friends and the information found on podcasts about this title. I am disappointed that I never encountered Toni Morrison in a classroom as her work really begs for deeper discussion but I am awfully grateful to be reading her now.
The Bluest Eye- After reading Beloved, I vowed to read Morrison’s full backlist. I liked The Bluest Eye but it was no Beloved….
